York Hospital began construction on its new $10 million surgery center expansion project in Fall, 2008 and Phase I is now complete.  Phase II will be complete later this fall. Community members should note that surgery and special procedures patients may now use the new surgery center entrance on the campus to enter the building.

UPDATE - MARCH, 2010:

The external addition which houses new waiting spaces, pre- and post-operative care rooms, recovery rooms (PACU) and new staff space has been completed. Open houses were held earlier this month to show off the new spaces.

Phase II has started with renovations to the area where the current surgery center services are located. Construction will not affect our ability to provide surgical services and we will remain open throughout construction. We are still on track for the whole project to be complete by Fall, 2010.

The expansion plan includes a new, 7,000 sf addition to the surgery center and the renovation of5,000 sf in the existing area to accommodate a major expansion of services and enhance privacy for our patients and their families. The surgery center expansion will be funded in large part through donations to the "For Every Patient" Campaign.

The new center offers two additional operating room suites and five additional pre- and post-op rooms for patients and their family members, bringing the totals to five OR suites and ten pre- and post-op rooms. Also included is a new Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) with six private patient recovery rooms; a new, more patient friendly reception and waiting area; and additional space for equipment storage and staffing needs.
